India and Russia Strengthen Ties in Bilateral Talks, Sign Key Agreements in Moscow

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov Discuss Diplomatic Roadmap, Address International Challenges, and Forge Collaborations in Military Technology and Nuclear Power Projects.

Mr. Jaishankar said, “Relations have been strong and steady, living up to responsibility of a special and privileged strategic partnership. We will discuss the international situation, development challenges for the Global South and multilateralism, multipolarity during discussions. 

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov performed bilateral talks in Moscow on December 27. Diplomatic session files for the next four years were signed and exchanged during the meeting.

Lavrov emphasized the ancient and steady progress of India-Russia ties. He highlighted the collaboration in international forums like the UN, SCO, and BRICS, expressing mutual hobby in an open and truthful global system. Lavrov emphasized the resilient nature of the relationship, unaffected by political fluctuations.

Mr. Jaishankar said, “Relations have been strong and steady, living up to responsibility of a special and privileged strategic partnership. We will discuss the international situation, development challenges for the Global South and multilateralism, multipolarity during discussions. 

As a part of the diplomatic consultations, agreements were reached on cooperation for the International North-South Transport corridor and a felony framework for the mutual protection of investments. Positive development became noted in resuming and expediting India-Eurasian Economic Union FTA talks in January 2024.

Addressing India’s army technology wishes and the ‘Make in India’ coverage, Lavrov pledged support and introduced agreements on projects for the production of cutting-edge weaponry. Two amendments had been signed to enhance the implementation of the Kudankulam nuclear power tasks in India.

Both international locations expressed interest in elevated participation in worldwide corporations. Russia supported India’s aspirations for a United Nations Security Council seat. Lavrov also thanked India for helping Russia chair the BRICS summit in 2024.

Jaishankar’s go to Moscow changed the once-a-year summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin, an unbroken tradition for the reason in 2000. The omission of the summit for the second consecutive year was attributed to the Ukraine warfare. Despite this, each leader had made more than one trip abroad at some point in the year. The opportunity of an assembly at the SCO summit in Delhi in July has been deferred to a virtual summit.
